Hennepin County is by far the most populous in Minnesota. With a population of 1,132,425 according to the 2010 U.S. Census, about one in five Minnesotans live in the county. The county’s, and in a way the state’s, early history is closely linked to the establishment of its seat and most populous city, Minneapolis. The area was named in honor of the 17th-century explorer Father Louis Hennepin.
Hennepin County has a total area of 606.38 square miles, of which 556.62 square miles (or 91.79%) is land and 49.77 square miles (or 8.21%) is water. Major arterial routes include Interstate 35W, Interstate 94, Interstate 394, Interstate 494, Interstate 694 and more. Its major economic centers are in downtown Minneapolis and Bloomington, but many other cities such as Golden Valley, Plymouth, St. Louis Park and other Hennepin County communities have plenty to offer. The Twins’ Target Field and Vikings’ Metrodome are found in Minneapolis, while the Mall of America is in Bloomington. Hennepin County is home to more than a dozen colleges and universities, including University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus in Minneapolis, Hennepin Technical College in Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie, Minneapolis College of Art and Design and Normandale Community College in Bloomington.
There are many choices for real estate in Hennepin County. Homes for sale in the county come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and prices. Single-family homes start at $10,000 and could climb to more than $12,000,000. Townhouses start at about $25,000, while condominiums can be found for as low as $12,500.
